University of Zagreb School of Medicine (UZSM) is the oldest educational institution for medical training and research in the South-East Europe. It has a long tradition in education of medical doctors, as well as in research and clinical practice. UZSM is not only locally known, but it is recognized internationally as an excellent training and research institution. UZSM participated in six FP5 projects, seven FP6 and seven FP7 (one as coordinator).
Its Institute of Pathology is the biggest Institute of Pathology in Croatia with equipped laboratories for grossing and preparing slides, with immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology and electron microscopy laboratory. There is an autopsy theatre, classical museum of gross specimens with several hundreds of samples, main lecture hall for 200 people and 3 seminar rooms (max capacity 40, 40, 20 people) equipped with all together 48 microscopes. Internet is accessible via cord and wi-fi throughout the Institute. With huge archived materials, around 12000 new biopsies per year, educational activities for students, residents and certified pathologists, it is the best educational institution for pathology education in Croatia. Thirty Saltykow Memorial Meetings and since 2007, five European Schools of Pathology for residents and young pathologists were organized at the Institute of Pathology.
Our molecular pathology laboratory is the leading in its field in Croatia, providing many diagnostic tests (HPV, EGFR, ALK, BRAF, sarcoma testing, neuromuscular disorders...) with performing Western-blot, PCR, RT-PCR, sequencing and FISH. Besides this great infrastructure, we have excellent young team with great research potential.
Pathologists/researchers from our Institute are among the most publishing scientist at our University and Croatia, with strong back up from all our laboratories.
